this ain't no TPS report
Tim put up a little music questionairre, and threw down the gauntlet to answer it myself. Tim, consider the gauntlet picked up, and returned to you.
1) Total amount of music on your computer:
4547 songs, 11.6 days, 15.60 GB. this is lacking a lot of music, though, that I own and is sitting in a box in my mom's closet. Music that I haven't burned yet. Such as The Flaming Lips' Zaireeka. but just the same, this really is more than I really need.
2) Last CD you bought was:
as in physical CD? Shit... Bjork's new albumn? I've come to see CD's as clutter, and if there's one thing I don't need more of it's clutter. So I've taken to making the most out of my neighbor's wi-fi connection, and download music. Somtimes legally, and sometimes... not. the last albumn I paid for was the soundtrack to The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, and the last albumn I got period was Meiko Kaji's Zenkyoku Shu
3) what was the last song you listened to before reading this message? was it deliberate?
Isaac Haye's I Stand Accused. And yes, this was deliberate. I've owned his Best Of comp for a while, but have I actually sat and listened to it? no. that, and I don't listen to enough black people music, so I'm trying to make amends.
4) write down five songs that you listen to often and/or mean a lot to you.
According to iTunes, my top 5 most played songs are - Maps, Yeah Yeah Yeahs; Everlong, Foo Fighters; Fog (Again) - Live, Radiohead; The Middle, Jimmy Eat World; & Banana Co., Radiohead. but do those mean the most to me, per se? eh...
i. Solitary Man, Neil Diamond - the version I'm most familiar with is Cash's cover from his albumn of the same name. What can I say - these lines speak to me: "Don't know that I will but until I can find me / A girl who'll stay and won't play games behind me / I'll be what I am / A solitary man". And lets not forget the horns in Diamond's version - so bombastic!
ii. Jolene, Dolly Parton - we've all been there, jealous and hurt and let down.
iii. I Get Around, The Beach Boys - I don't think there's a finer 3 minutes of pop music anywhere on the planet. Believe me, I've searched.
iv. Why Bother, Weezer & The Good Life, Weezer - these two songs really work well for me. they combine my mildly eternal pessimism with my tepidly intermittent frustration with not doing more on a proactive basis to get what I want out of life.
v. Satisfied Mind, Rhodes & Hayes - I know this song only from Cash, but same difference. i hope that I live my life with a satisfied mind.
5) who are you going to pass this meme onto?
Dunno... most people I know aren't into lists. but surprise me liz - I dare you.
