What a week

Phew! I have had quite a week. Quite a wonderful week, at that. Last weekend, I moved to my new apartment. So far, so good. There are things about it that aren't perfect - it's louder and my bedroom can get stuffy - but there are great things about it, too - I have two great roommates and I'm cutting my monthly expenses in half.

Cutting them in half allows me to go to amazing places like Alinea. My dinner here was one of the most amazing meals of my life. I can't even begin to describe the night in any way that would do it justice (maybe another time). In the meantime, below is a picture of one of the 24 courses I enjoyed. It's a chilled potato and black truffle soup served with a piece of butter, parmeggiano reggiano, a ball of potato that had been boiled in clarified butter and then one more truffle slice. In order to eat the dish, you remove the pin and the other ingredients drop into the soup (keeping them seperate until eating keeps the cold soup cold and the hot extras hot) and tip it back like an oyster shooter. It was one of the tastiest things I could have ever imagined eating.

That was Wednesday night. Friday night was a graduation/going away party for a friend. That got me home at 3 AM. Saturday was dinner at Lula's (again), followed by a really nice show at the Hideout by the Lesser Birds of Paradise. And Sunday was something of a lazy day, with a trip to the Container Store for, well, some containers and then a little reading, a little Doctor Who courtesy of Netflix and... well, all in all - trust me on this - it was a great weekend. One for the memory books, as it were. Go me.

Dude, that totally makes sense. Wait until you see the rest of the dishes. I do plan on putting up a full report. What that chef does would blow the mind of lesser men.

As it was, Alinea damn near blew me pretty well.

That doesn't sound right.
