My neighbors must hate me
I got into watching American Idol this season. Nearly all god-damned 6 months of it. It was on right before my real show, The Amazing Race, and... well, why not? It's actually been pretty good, with good singers. who knew?
A boon to watching this, though, is that I'm introduced to so many wonderfully awful songs that I would never be caught dead trying to track down otherwise. Because who wants to admit that they want to listen to Air Supply?
And before I heard the one girl sing Making Love Out Of Nothing At All, certainly not me. But she sang it well, and it's kind of an awesome song. So, thanks to Limewire, it's now mine. And I've been playing it quite a bit. I won't say it's a good song, really. The lyrics are horribly trite, and it's more or less a male version of Total Eclipse of the Heart (another find via American Idol for me, actually).
But then you may also find something like Everlasting Love. Forget the fact that some ogre sang it. It's a good song, and that showed through. So you find the original, and it kind of rocks, really. and then(!?), you find that U2 covered it way back when, and... man. The mixing seems off, but you know, again - doesn't matter. It's a good song, and is, in fact, good enough to survive crappy production, and ogres. It's ogre-proof. If I ever find myself writing songs, that's all that I will hope for. that they be ogre-proof.
